Date of Observation: June 17,2009

Location Description: There are woods that surround our back yard, it's a rural area with lots of houses, but the woods continue back for miles.
The first time I was out in the back yard with my dogs and my german shepard began attacking the back fence, growling and barking. Before I could get back to her, she tucked her tail and began backing away from the fence. I couldn't see anything but by the time my dog reached me I heard a very aggressive growl that didn't sound like anything I had ever heard. Two days later around the same time in the morning the dogs and I were out and my sheppard went towards the fence again, this time I saw the head of a very large cat that was laying just the other side of my fence. It jumped and ran before the dog got out there. The last time it was seen was around the 24th, it was on the other side of my yard, still in the wooded area. My daughter saw two babys with the larger cat. We have since found several tracks, including what appears to be baby tracks, and marks in a few trees that must have been climbed. I did call DNR to report it, but they told me I was mistaken there were no cougars in my area. So I informed the neighbors and I am now keeping my kids and dogs closer to the house.
