I work at a childcare facility located in Milan, Michigan, on Stony Creek road between Willow and Willis Rds..3 of my co workers witness a large black cat/larger than black lab..with very long tail walk the edge of property line..two 4 ft fence is all that separates our property from wooded area cat walked through..he/she was roughly 30 ft. away from building..it stopped reached up and scratched tree post, visibly shaking the tree..and continued on west toward US-23..when authorities were called no one was sent to investigate and we were told cougars are not native to area and are not in MI..we protested that it may very well be released pet..but to no avail..they seemed unconcerned..needless to say children did not play out that day and we are abit unsure as to what next step of action would be:( understandably they are protected species..but this is very close for comfort..we have a nature trail that walk right through this area..but there is a bit too much nature for that now. there were fist size prints in the snow yesterday..the assistant director said he saw large claws in one of the prints
